Happy Thanksgiving to those in the USA and Canada!
I wanted to take this time to wish you all a joyful Thanksgiving. As we reflect on all the good things that God has done for us, both individually and collectively, we see endless reasons to give thanks.
We are not just an organization; we are a family, bound by our shared heritage and our determination to make a difference. This year, Thanksgiving coincides with the release of three of our six Tangale people who have been detained for the past four years. This development has been closely followed since early this morning. While we are not fully satisfied with the judgment, we give thanks to God for the release of Mr. Moses Danalfa, Mr. Lamai (Sarkin Samaran Tangale), and Mrs. Lois. A big thank you goes to the immediate past TCO executives for their tireless efforts in supporting the legal team that has worked on this case. Your labor of love and service to our community was not in vain.
One of the acquitted men, Mr. Danalfa, is someone I have known personally for most of my life. We have served together on various projects at both the church and Tangale community levels. Despite being physically challenged, Mr. Danalfa is an avid Tangale language developer, a diligent researcher, and a prolific writer on Tangale history, culture, and language. He is also one of the successful business owners in Tangale land.
I call on all of us to continue praying for these three Tangale people who have been acquitted, that they may find peace, comfort, and strength from God, and that we, the Tangale people, may provide them with the support they need to recover from the pain and psychological trauma they endured over the past four years. Let us also pray for the other three who were indicted, that God may fight for them through their lawyers and through all who will stand for them. The lawyers intend to appeal their case as soon as they receive a copy of the court judgment.
As we celebrate North American Thanksgiving with family and friends around our tables, may we remember to pray for the poor, the marginalized, and the persecuted. May we also give thanks for the freedom, security, and abundance of blessings that we enjoy.
