Dr. Musa Idris Maiyamba (IV) – A descendant of Maiyamba Palpalu
Dr. Musa Idris Maiyamba is the Mai Tangle-elect, the paramount traditional ruler of the Tangale people of Gombe State, Nigeria. He was elected by the Tangale kingmakers, receiving five out of the nine votes, leaving the other two contestants with two votes each. Dr. Maiyamba’s election has been a significant event, reflecting the community’s traditions and customs.
Despite winning the majority of votes, Governor Muhammad Inuwa Yahaya of Gombe state did not appoint him. Instead, the governor appointed a non-Tangale man, Malam Danladi Sanusi as the new Mai Tangale. This decision led to protests and controversy within the Tangale community, as many felt that the governor’s choice did not reflect the will of the kingmakers
The current situation in the Tangale community remains tense. The rejection of the governor’s stooge by various groups, including the Tangale Community Overseas, has led to significant uneasiness. These groups argue that Mal Danladi is not a true Tangale man and therefore cannot be their traditional ruler. They have accused Governor Inuwa Yahaya of manipulating the selection process to impose Danladi, despite him not being of Tangale origin.
The Tangale community continues to recognize and support Dr. Musa Idris Maiyamba, whom they believe is the rightful heir to the throne based on their cultural traditions. The situation has created considerable tension and chaos within the community, with calls for the removal of Danladi from the palace and for the Governor to respect the cultural heritage and wishes of the Tangale people.
